Stripe won't connect, or says restricted

What Stripe is waiting for, and why we can't fix it from here.

2 min read· Updated 2 August 2026

Stripe accounts are Stripe's, not ours. We can see whether your account is connected and whether it's able to take payments — we can't see or change your verification status, so almost everything here happens in Stripe's dashboard.

Onboarding didn't finish

Closing the tab partway through leaves the account created but incomplete. Go back to Settings → Payments and start again — Stripe picks up where you left off rather than making you retype everything.

The account says restricted

Restricted means Stripe wants something before it will let money move. Open your Stripe dashboard and look for the requirements banner; it names the missing item. Usually it's one of:

  • ID verification — a photo of your licence or passport that was blurry, cropped, or expired
  • Bank account details — a BSB or account number that failed validation
  • Business details — an ABN or trading name that doesn't match what's registered
Careful

Payments can keep succeeding while an account is restricted, but payouts stop — money accumulates in Stripe and doesn't reach your bank. Clear a restriction promptly rather than letting it sit.

Stripe declined the account

Stripe occasionally rejects an account outright, and doesn't always explain why in detail. That's a conversation with Stripe support — we have no visibility into those decisions and no ability to overturn them. In the meantime you can still invoice clients using direct deposit or a payment link, though the print store will stay unavailable until card payments work.
