Let guests find their photos with a selfie

With Find me on, a guest takes a selfie and sees every photo they're in.

Find me adds a button to the gallery's top bar. A guest taps it, reads what happens to their selfie, then takes one or picks a photo of themselves, and the gallery shows every photo they're in. It's made for weddings and events, where a guest wants their twenty photos out of a thousand.

Turning it on

Find me is off for every gallery until you switch it on, because it uses face recognition. When you do, the gallery's photos are checked for faces in the background, a few minutes for most galleries. The button appears for guests once at least two photos have faces in them, and new uploads are checked as they arrive.

Tell your clients first

A face is sensitive information under Australia's Privacy Act, and every guest in the photos has their face recognised, not just the one searching. Mention Find me in your contract or booking terms before you use it. Settings has a suggested line under A line for your contract that you can copy.

What happens to the face data

  • Faces are recognised by Amazon Rekognition in Sydney, so the data stays in Australia.
  • Each gallery's faces are kept separately and only ever searched from that gallery.
  • A guest's selfie is compared and then thrown away. It's never saved.
  • Turning Find me off deletes the gallery's face data straight away. It's also deleted when the gallery is permanently deleted, 30 days after it expires, and if your account closes.

Good to know

  • Guests only see results when they're in at least two photos, so a single look-alike match never shows.
  • It finds photos; it doesn't control who can open the gallery. Your password and email settings still do that.
  • Small faces in big group shots are harder to match. Clear, well-lit selfies facing the camera work best.
  • Find me is part of the Pro plan.
