Save your gallery to your home screen
Keep your photos one tap away, and get a notification when new ones are added.
You can save your gallery to your phone's home screen like an app. It gets its own icon, opens straight to your photos, and you won't need to dig the link out of your email again. Nothing to download from an app store, and no account to make.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Open your gallery link in Safari. (If it opened inside Instagram, Facebook or your email app, use the menu there to open it in Safari first.)
- Tap the Share button — the square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen (top right on an iPad).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. If it isn't in the list, tap Edit Actions at the bottom and add it.
- Tap Add. Your gallery's icon appears on your home screen.
A few seconds after the gallery opens in Safari, a small bar at the bottom reminds you where the option is. Tap the × if you don't want it — it won't come back for that gallery.
On an Android phone
Chrome usually offers it for you: an Install bar appears at the bottom of the gallery. Tap it, then Install. If it doesn't appear, tap the ⋮ menu at the top right, then Install app or Add to Home screen. In Samsung Internet, tap the menu (☰), then Add page to → Home screen.
From then on, open your gallery from the icon. If you have photos from more than one shoot with the same photographer, each gallery can have an icon of its own.
Hearing about new photos
Some photographers add photos to a gallery over time. Where they've switched this on, there's a bell beside Favourites (it reads Notify me on a bigger screen) that turns on notifications, so your phone tells you when there's something new. Tap it again any time to turn them off.
On an iPhone, notifications only work from the home-screen icon, not from Safari — that's Apple's rule, not ours. Add the gallery to your home screen first, open it from the icon, then tap the bell.
