Searching a gallery for a moment

Type a word like “cake” or “first dance” and see those photos.

1 min read· Updated 8 October 2026

Some galleries have a Search button in the top bar. Tap it and type a few words about what's in the photo you're after, like “cake”, “beach”, “dog” or “first dance”. The gallery shows the matching photos from every folder, best match first.

Getting good results

  • Describe what you can see: a place, a moment or an object. “Speeches”, “sunset” and “flowers” all work.
  • It matches by meaning, so “laughing” also finds photos of people smiling.
  • Search finds what's in a photo, not who. To find the photos you're in, use Find me if the gallery has it.
  • Press Clear search to go back to the whole gallery.
Note

Search only appears in galleries where your photographer has switched it on. Photos added in the last few minutes may not show up in a search yet.
